Instead of spending a relaxing and spiritual retreat in Marinduque, thousands of
travelers experienced their travel nightmares going to Marinduque during the Holy
Week . Scumbugs in Dalahican port abound taking advantage of ticketless passengers.
The governments of both Quezon and Marinduque seem inutile when dealing
with this problem. For a start, they should implement a good reservation system,
where people can call for schedule, choose a seat and know the current fare.
Reservation allows the management of the shipping lines to accurately predict
the number of passengers at a given day and hence they can schedule the number
of boats that can ply the route. A win-win situation because the passengers will
be spared the misery of being stranded in the stinky Dalahican port. Did I say
STINKY? I guess I have to rant on this one, too. |
Marinduque can only be reached via air or sea. |

The airport in Marinduque is located in Bgy. Masiga, Gasan. A pilot, who is a native

lines normally can bring you inside the port. If you take a bus to Lucena City only,
it will bring you to the Grand Terminal. Look for the jeepney that can bring you inside the port. However, it takes time to fill it up with passengers
so if you're impatient, go ride a jeep to the city proper and ask the
driver where the Dalahican jeepney station is. The caveat -- you need to ride a
trike to get inside the port. |
Roll On-Roll Off (Ro-ro) boats can accommodate several vehicles so you can travel with your own vehicle.
However, space becomes limited during the peak seasons of Christmas and
Lent and your vehicle may end up as a liability ruining your trip. Aside from
Ro-ro, there are faster passenger boats that are airconditioned and more convenient (although it is still substandard).
There were some marked improvements when the shipping monopoly was broken but a
lot of things still need to be done. (Read In Low Gear). Those traveling to western
section of Marinduque which comprises the towns of Mogpog, Boac, Gasan and
Buenavista may take the boats going to Balanacan port and Cawit port. Depending on the weather and number of passengers, travel time may
vary from as early as 4:00 AM till 6:30 PM. See links below for scheduling.
Those going to Sta. Cruz and Torrijos may take the boats going to Buyabod port. There are two trips daily. PHP500.00 (USD 10) may be enough to travel one-way.
Tickets can be bought in the port of call. Reservation is non-existent. |
The jeepneys or tricycles will transport passengers from the airport or ship port to anywhere
in Marinduque. Airconditioned FX is also available for added comfort. |
